Technigro receives top honour at Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards
4 December 2012

Vegetation management company Technigro took out the Business of the Year title at the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards on Saturday November 24.

CEO Nick Bloor says the award is a great reflection on the efforts of his employees over the course of the year.

"The hard work of our people is intrinsic to the successful running of this company-something which is reflected in Technigro winning Business of the Year," Mr. Bloor says.

"Since starting in 1987, we have gone through many stages of growth: as a one man operation, as a business made up purely of family members working to build something great, right through to becoming a major Gold Coast company that employs over 75 people.

"However, regardless of how large we've grown we have always retained a strong sense of family amongst our staff and management, whether or not we are related.
"For me, is the reason we've been able to achieve some of the fantastic things we have."

This year has seen Technigro take some major steps forward, including launching their specialised Integrated Vegetation Management services as well as publishing a series of weed identification books in conjunction with renowned biologist Dr. Sheldon Navie.

However, the company's biggest success in 2012 was breaking into the international market taking southeast Queensland's best practice to Singapore.

The initiative was announced at the end of last year by the Minister of State for National Development and Manpower, BG (NS) Tan Chuan-Jin, and is set to enhance the productivity of the landscape industry in Singapore.

While Singapore has put considerable focus on its public open spaces, the local landscaping industry relies heavily on a low-skilled work force, which has led to ingrained inefficiencies in the supply of services.

Technigro's work in Singapore has been constituted by two projects commissioned by the Centre of Urban Greenery and Ecology of Singapore's National Parks Board: a tailor-made landscape vegetation management system, and a weed management best practice demonstration, both of which have sought to specifically improve competency and productivity of the workforce.

Mr. Bloor says that winning the honour in 2012 is particularly significant, given that the company has been celebrating its 25th year of operation.

"This award has been a fantastic way to cap off what has been a very important year in our history," Mr Bloor says.

"In addition to this, we have now moved into the international market with our operations, which has been one of the biggest advancements we've made as a company.

"I want to congratulate each and every one of our team members for their commitment to Technigro and the results they've achieved this year."
